more information on Delft Universities whereabouts, you can take a look here. Delft is a city of great charm with the best Holland has to offer: tree lined canals, beautifully kept historic buildings, charming hotels, top-class restaurants, fun-shopping and great bars. Delft is a 'must-see' on your visit to the Netherlands. Delft is nicknamed 'de Prinsenstad' (the City of Princes), because William of Orange, the founding father of the Dutch royal family, held court in Delft in the 16th century. Other famous historical figures who lived and worked in Delft are the painter Johannes Vermeer and the inventor of the microscope, Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek. Delft's rich history is still very much alive when one looks at the ancient canals lined with merchant houses, the old churches, and the beautiful town hall. But Delft is also a very modern and lively city. Ten percent of its 100,000 inhabitants are students and the presence of the university has attracted a large number of technology-oriented companies to set up businesses in Delft.
